The best Anbernic RG35XX Garlic’s apps

With the Anbernic RG35XX being the starter handheld for many newcomers, I think it is necessary to write a list of all third party apps and tools you can get with Garlic in your RG35XX (which is currently the default custom firmware). I will try to explain the function of each application, and give you a subjective recommendation. Hope this list of the best RG35XX Garlic apps will help you enjoy your handheld more.

To select an application, go to Games > Apps.

Dingux Commander

Dingux Commander

Inspired by the File Explorer app from Miyoo Mini Plus, the Dingux Commander is a two-panel file manager for the Anbernic RG35XX, and this is the most downloaded application in this handheld device. It helps manage the system, by tasks like adding or moving files between folders. It is certainly a game changer for anyone who is afraid of constantly removing SD cards can cause damage.

I also recommend to read my thorough handheld SD card guide, to select the most suitable SD card for your needs.

Simple Terminal

Simple Terminal

A simple virtual SDL terminal emulator which has more downloads than most other Garlic OS apps. However, it is an advanced application that most people don’t need or don’t know how to use. If you want to tinker with your RG35XX system, the Simple Terminal application will be necessary.

If you don’t know what SDL emulator is, perhaps you should stay away from this application.

Screenshot Daemon

Screenshot Daemon

Normally, you need to press both MENU + UP to take a screenshot on Garlic OS. With this application, you can take screenshot with L2 + R2. It isn’t a necessary feature for me, especially when I used to press MENU + POWER to take screenshot from the Miyoo Mini Plus, which is a lot more difficult.

GMU Music Player

GMU Music Player

With the capability to run up to .flac audio files, many people are using their Anbernic RG35XX or RG-Nano as a music player. Well, I love listening to music, and I collect quite a few headphones out there, so I understand the need for a dedicated music player.

ROM Shuffler

ROM Shuffler

Similar to the ROM randomizer from Miyoo Mini, the idea of playing a random game (just like shuffle music) is interesting, but doesn’t work for me.

Little GP Music

The LittleGPTracker (the piggy) is a music tracker, which supports 8 monophonic 16Bit/44.1Khz stereo sample playback channels. Again, you can use your RG35XX as another music player.

PDF Manual Support

PDF Manual Support

If you also want to make your RG35XX a PDF reader, this application is necessary. People are demanding at least a manual reader for the Anbernic RG35XX, which is quite complicated to get used to, unlike the Miyoo Mini with its Onion OS. Okay, so add a folder for your PDF files, and get the PDF manual support app working. There are two necessary functions for you to use:

  • Brightness control, works the same as brightness control feature of Garlic OS.
  • Easy resume on what you previously read.
AppImportant?
romSearch

Actually the romSearch is the first application that I need to download, because it’s very important to navigate among countless games. It is also one of the most downloaded applications for Garlic OS.

MPlayer

MPlayer

If you love using FFPlayer on the Miyoo Mini, you will love the MPlayer on RG35XX, too. Thanks to XQuader, it is a fully featured media player, it has fast and stable seek, OSD info (volume/brightness/progress bars, elapsed/total video time, etc), Subtitle support, can control video brightness/contrast/saturation, playback speed, audio delay, switch audio tracks and subtitles, and a lot more.

Here is the keymap for the video player:

Boot Animation Switcher

Boot Animation Switcher

A very cool application that help you change the boot animation for your RG35XX. If you need the common boot animations made by RetroMateo, you can download below:

Glitched Steam Deck:

PlayStation 1:

Extract files, then copy boot_anim, dmenu.bin, ulmage, kernel.dtb and ramdisk.img and paste it to your SD card.

Battery Animation Switcher

If you want cool animations for your RG35XX’s battery charging states, you can download and use this application. You still need to choose and download the animations first.

That’s it, if you have any other questions, please find it in my RG35XX tutorial.
